Background

The homeowners contacted RCC Waterproofing in Mississauga due to concerns about a wet basement. The area likely consists of residential homes, and like many properties, they were experiencing issues with water penetration. This is a common problem in Mississauga and the need for reliable exterior waterproofing is crucial to protect homes from water damage and maintain a dry and healthy living environment. The homeowners sought a solution to address these issues and prevent further damage to their property.

Challenge

The challenge for the homeowners was a leaky basement, indicated by water penetrating the foundation. This situation can lead to a range of problems, including damage to property, the growth of mold, and a decrease in the overall value of the home. Addressing the source of the leak and implementing effective waterproofing solutions were essential to rectify the issue and prevent future occurrences of a wet basement.

Solutions

RCC Waterproofing proposed the following exterior waterproofing solutions:

  1. Excavation to the level of the weeping tile.

  2. Repair of the foundation.

  3. Installation of a 4-inch weeping tile with filter.

  4. Application of ¾ inch clear gravel.

  5. Installation of Hydro-Guard commercial rubber.

  6. Installation of sub-soil drainage membrane.

  7. Re-installation of window well.

  8. Installation of a drain in the window well.

  9. Installation of a 4-inch PVC rainwater system.

  10. Connection of the weeper to the existing discharge system.

  11. Saw cutting and removal of concrete 2-2.5 ft wide in the digging area, with gravel to be placed on top upon completion. The homeowner is responsible for reinstalling the concrete after soil settlement and obtaining permission to use the neighbor’s space.

Implementation Process

The RCC Waterproofing team carried out the following steps:

  1. Excavated the area to access the weeping tile.

  2. Repaired the foundation to address any cracks or damage.

  3. Installed a new 4-inch weeping tile system with a filter to improve drainage.

  4. Applied ¾ inch clear gravel to facilitate water flow.

  5. Installed Hydro-Guard commercial rubber and a sub-soil drainage membrane for enhanced protection.

  6. Re-installed the window well and added a drain to prevent water accumulation.

  7. Installed a 4-inch PVC rainwater system to manage water runoff.

  8. Connected the new weeping tile system to the existing discharge.

  9. Saw cut and removed concrete in the work area and placed gravel, with the homeowner to handle concrete replacement post-settlement.
