Determining the Affected Area – 3 Step Process

STEP 1: Establish the Water Damage Category

What has to be removed and cleaned depends on the water damage category, which is determined by the source of the water.

Category 1 / Clean Water – Comes from a clean source, such as a burst supply line, a flooded sink, or a bathtub. To stop the growth of mold, it must be dried rapidly.

Category 2 / Grey Water – Originates from foundation seepage and dishwasher or washing machine overflow. Grey water is unhygienic, but it doesn’t carry germs or diseases, therefore only extremely permeable things, like carpets, need to be removed.

Category 3 / Black Water – Usually results from clogs in sewage drains. Significant numbers of germs and pathogens that might cause major health problems are present in black water, which is highly polluted. In order to eliminate any leftover contamination, contaminated things that are uncleanable must be removed, and the entire site must be well-cleansed and disinfected using antimicrobial solutions that have been carefully prepared.

STEP 2: Determining the Affected Area

RCC will first assess the extent of the damage in order to identify the wet and dry areas. This evaluation is conducted using a moisture meter and thermal imaging camera. The Moisture Meter’s prongs are used to check and record the moisture content of impacted materials once the damaged regions have been identified. We have to go past what is immediately apparent since water may be hiding in places that are not immediately apparent. The walls in nearby rooms must also be examined to ensure that no space is overlooked.

STEP 3: Provide an Overview to the Property Owner

Following entry to the property and an assessment of the damage, RCC will provide the homeowner a concise rundown of the tasks necessary to clean up and dry out the affected area or areas. Common scopes would include the following:

  • Documenting the damages, cleaning up the mess, and setting up drying equipment to make the affected area(s) dry and sanitary to mitigate any mould issue.
  • Preparation of a detailed estimate for the necessary repairs.
  • Everything is billed and estimated at the insurance companies’ prices set by Xactimate.

The homeowner will get a client information packet from RCC Flood Restoration; they just need to fill out the form, and RCC will handle the rest. After the homeowner reviews and approves, work will start right away.
